Truman Sinclair was born in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles at 14. He picked up guitar around 8 and came up through Chicago’s emo and metal scenes, and in 2019 he founded the emo band Frat Mouse, which his booking agency says released four albums and played more than 300 shows. He was 23 when Pigeons & Planes named him to its 26 Artists to Watch in 2026.
The sound
His solo music leans toward alt-country, Americana and folk rock, with those emo roots still in the mix. The Line of Best Fit lists Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Phoebe Bridgers, Pinegrove and The Front Bottoms among his touchstones, and Americana UK pointed to Laurel Canyon-era Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor.
The records
His first solo album, American Recordings, came out Feb. 14, 2025, via R&R. He then signed with Capitol and Polydor, and his first Capitol singles, “Dustland” and “Sugar,” received BBC Radio 1 plays. His Capitol EP, Rivers of Sugar and Blood, arrived in early 2026: six songs he wrote, produced and recorded himself. The singles “4th of july” and “Right On Time” followed this summer.
Why now
He spent the spring opening for Tyler Ballgame in the UK and Europe and for Courtney Barnett in North America, and headlined his own UK dates in May. He told Americana UK his next album will lean more toward rock and roll. At home in Los Angeles, he held a residency at the Silverlake Lounge in late 2025. No new dates are listed yet.
