Ultimate Guide to LA and OC Record Stores

selection of albums in music store

Amoeba on Hollywood Boulevard and VIP Records on Pacific Coast Highway are the best-known names among niche record stores for collectors and casual listeners alike. Los Angeles and Orange County have dozens of other record stores worth the trip for locals and visitors.

This guide lists 60 of them: 44 in the county and 16 in Orange County in total. The numbers reflect a wide range of stores, from independents to larger retailers across two counties in Southern California. These figures help readers plan visits.

Each listing has the address with a map link, what the store is best for, what it is known for, and a link to its website or Instagram when one is available.

Every store was checked against its own site, 2026 listings and 2026 local coverage in September 2026. Stores that have closed or moved away are listed at the end. Hours change often, so check with the store before you go.

How to Use This Guide

  • Best for gives each store one main strength: used and crate digging, new releases, punk and indie, soul, jazz and funk, hip-hop and Latin, collectible and rare, or listening bar and cafe. Most stores carry more than one thing.
  • In-stores and events marks stores that host in-store performances, signings, listening parties or DJ nights.
  • Use Jump to an Area below to go straight to a neighborhood.
