Zharmaine Boatman

Founder, Editor in Chief & Visual Journalist

Born in the Philippines and raised in Long Beach, California, Zharmaine brings the perspective of the communities that raised her to every story. She has always experienced music differently, gravitating toward its symbolism and overall message, and she helps others see beyond the surface. She pairs documentary photography with firsthand reporting, telling stories through both images and words. A former dancer, she draws on her ongoing work in dance, portraiture, and fashion for a sharp eye for movement, expression, and timing. Her photographs capture the performance and the human moments around it, while her writing brings in the audience, the atmosphere, and the cultural context.

Staff Writer

Sean Boatman is a freelance journalist and creative writer whose work explores the intersections of culture, community, business, and everyday life. As a staff writer for The 824 Journal, he covers a wide range of stories while balancing a full-time professional career outside the newsroom. When he is not reporting or crafting narratives, he is developing creative projects and pursuing opportunities with publications that value thoughtful storytelling, strong reporting, and authentic voices.
