Our Policies

Our policies reflect our commitment to independent journalism, ethical storytelling, and preserving today's culture for tomorrow's history.

Review Policy

At The 824 Journal, we believe criticism is an important part of documenting culture. Our reviews are never promotional material, nor are they written to generate controversy or clicks. Every review is an honest, contextual evaluation intended to help readers better understand a work and its place within today's cultural landscape.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial opinions cannot be purchased or influenced. We do not accept payment, gifts, or editorial control in exchange for favorable coverage. Complimentary press credentials, review copies, advance screenings, or promotional materials do not guarantee coverage and never determine the outcome of a review.

Context Matters

We do not review creative work in isolation. Whether covering a concert, album, film, book, documentary, or other cultural work, we consider the broader context — artistic intent, cultural significance, and its place within the creator's larger body of work.

Respect for the Creative Process

Creative work deserves thoughtful criticism. Our reviews may be positive, mixed, or critical, but they are always written with appreciation for the time, effort, and skill involved in creating art. We believe meaningful criticism contributes to culture rather than diminishing it.

Review Requests

We welcome review requests from artists, authors, filmmakers, publicists, record labels, publishers, venues, and other members of the creative community. While we cannot cover every submission, we prioritize projects that align with our editorial mission of preserving today's culture for tomorrow's history.

Corrections Policy

Accuracy is fundamental to everything we publish. As an independent culture publication, we recognize that our work becomes part of the historical record we hope to preserve. When mistakes happen, we believe they should be corrected promptly, transparently, and responsibly.

Our Standards

Every article, review, interview, profile, and documentary project undergoes editorial review before publication. Whenever possible, we verify names, dates, venues, titles, historical context, official sources, and direct quotations.

Corrections

When a factual error is confirmed, we update the article as quickly as possible. Minor corrections, such as spelling, grammar, or formatting, may be made without a formal notice. If a correction changes the factual accuracy or interpretation of a story, we will include a dated correction note at the bottom of the article explaining what was changed.

Requesting a Correction

If you believe one of our stories contains a factual error, please get in touch through our Contact page using the subject line Correction Request. Please include the article title, article URL, the specific information you believe is incorrect, and supporting sources if available. Every correction request is reviewed carefully.

Ethics Policy

The 824 Journal exists to document culture with fairness, accuracy, independence, and respect.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial decisions are made independently. Advertising, sponsorships, partnerships, complimentary access, review materials, or personal relationships never determine our opinions or influence our coverage.

Accurate Reporting

Whenever possible, our reporting is based on firsthand observation, direct interviews, official sources, and verified public records. We do not knowingly publish rumors, speculation, or unverified claims.

Photography Ethics

Photography is a core part of our storytelling. For documentary, journalistic, and editorial coverage, photographs are presented as faithful representations of the events they depict. Standard editorial adjustments — including exposure, white balance, color correction, dust removal, and cropping — are acceptable. We do not add, remove, or manipulate subjects in documentary or journalistic photographs in ways that alter the factual record. Creative portraits, conceptual photography, and artistic projects may involve additional editing when clearly presented as creative work rather than documentary coverage.

Conflicts of Interest

Contributors are expected to disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationships that could reasonably influence their reporting. When appropriate, we will either disclose the relationship to readers or assign coverage to another contributor.

Community Respect

We approach every community with curiosity, humility, and respect. Whether documenting neighborhoods, concerts, creative spaces, or cultural events, we strive to accurately represent people, respect venue rules, honor artists' boundaries, and avoid sensationalism. Our goal is to preserve culture — not exploit it.

Editorial Standards

Editorial standards define how we produce our work. While our Ethics Policy explains our values, our Editorial Standards explain the process behind every story we publish.

Research First

Every story begins with research. Whenever possible, we verify information through official sources, interviews, public records, and firsthand reporting before publication.

Source Hierarchy

When multiple sources are available, we prioritize them in order: official sources, direct interviews, public records, primary historical documents, reputable news organizations, then secondary references.

Reviews

Our reviews are editorial opinions informed by firsthand experience, research, and context. They are intended to evaluate creative work honestly while respecting the people who made it.

Articles

Our articles focus on reporting, storytelling, interviews, documentary work, history, and cultural context. Unlike reviews, articles are not written to evaluate — they are written to document, explore, and inform.

Photography

Photography is treated as journalism, documentation, and visual storytelling — not simply illustration. Images are selected because they contribute to the story.

Transparency

If significant factual information changes after publication, we update our stories and clearly note material corrections when appropriate.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence may occasionally assist with brainstorming, organizing research, editing, grammar, or improving workflow efficiency.

All published articles, reviews, interviews, and editorial decisions are reviewed, verified, and approved by a human editor before publication.

AI is never used as a substitute for firsthand reporting, original photography, or independent editorial judgment.

Our Commitment

The 824 Journal exists to create thoughtful work with lasting value. Rather than chasing trends or publishing for volume alone, we strive to document the people, places, works, and moments shaping culture today — preserving them for tomorrow's history.
