How BINI and SB19 Transform Filipino Music Barriers

The Mojave tent at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio

On April 10, 2026, the eight-member girl group BINI, OPM artists in the US, walked onto the Mojave stage at Coachella.

Moreover, OPM artists in the US have rarely headlined such festivals.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, no homegrown Filipino act had played the festival before.

Three and a half months later, on July 30, SB19 performed on the Allianz Stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Moreover, GMA News called it another first for Filipino acts among OPM artists in the US.

Two firsts in one summer is not an accident.

As a result, it is the visible end of a stretch of U.S. touring, industry appearances, and label groundwork.

That run through 2025 and 2026 included much of Southern California.

This momentum highlights OPM artists in the US and their expanding reach.

Why Southern California

The numbers explain the routing. Pew Research Center estimates about 4.6 million people in the United States identified as Filipino in 2023. This demographic supports OPM artists in the US. Pew puts the Los Angeles metro area’s Filipino population at about 500,000, the largest of any metro in the country.

Inquirer.net, citing the 2020 Census, counted roughly 321,000 Filipinos in Los Angeles County.

That figure accounts for about 42 percent of the county’s Asian American and Pacific Islander population.

OPM artists in the US illustrate another facet of this community.

Long Beach and Carson sit inside that county. Additionally, Inquirer USA singles out Long Beach, near the former naval base, as one of the region’s established Filipino communities.

For a touring act from Manila, a date in Anaheim, downtown Los Angeles, or Temecula is not a gamble. As a result, it is a homecoming for a large share of the room.

BINI: a Los Angeles theater, then Indio

BINI’s U.S. run started in 2025 with the BINIverse World Tour. Inquirer USA listed a Los Angeles date on June 14, 2025, followed by Temecula on June 15 and San Francisco on June 17, on a leg that also hit New York, Washington, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

Inquirer USA later reported that the Coachella booking came through the group’s label, ABS-CBN, and the agency Wasserman, which had handled that North American tour. The two are linked: a group that can fill theaters across the country has a case to make to a festival booker.

At Coachella, BINI played 45-minute sets on the opening Friday of both weekends, April 10 and April 17, 2026, in the Mojave tent. Cebu Daily News reported the second-weekend set included “Kara,” “Salamin, Salamin,” “Cherry on Top,” “Pantropiko,” and the live debut of “Blush,” with sea-themed costumes in week one and land themes in week two.

The group stayed in Los Angeles between weekends. On April 21, BINI appeared at the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live for Global Spin Live, a conversation-and-performance format built around international artists. Inquirer.net reported they performed “Blush” and “Unang Kilig,” including an a cappella section.

Nine days later, on April 30, 2026, Billboard presented BINI with its Global Force award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium. GMA News reported the award was presented by Cara Delevingne, and that member Sheena closed the acceptance by saying the group received it “as proud Filipinas.”

Then they came back. The Signals World Tour, announced in April 2026, put BINI at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles on August 5, 2026, followed by Rohnert Park on August 7, Las Vegas on August 8, and the San Diego Civic Theatre on August 9, according to Billboard Philippines.

SB19: Anaheim first, then Chicago

SB19 took a similar road, one year ahead. Their Simula at Wakas World Tour hit The City National Grove of Anaheim on July 12, 2025, and Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula on July 27, 2025, with additional dates in Redwood City, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Honolulu, per Inquirer USA.

The 2026 U.S. trip was built around promotion for their second album, “Wakas at Simula.” Billboard Philippines listed a pop-up at the 100 Thieves store in Los Angeles on July 25, 2026, the Grammy Museum’s Global Spin Live on July 28, a ceremonial first pitch at a White Sox game in Chicago on July 29, Lollapalooza on July 30, and a fan event in Sacramento on August 8 and 9.

The Grammy Museum’s own event page notes that the album’s single “Visa” debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, and that SB19 was the first Southeast Asian act nominated for a Billboard Music Award. In GMA News’s coverage of the Lollapalooza set, member Pablo described the group’s goal as introducing Filipino music to the world.

The next tier

Not every act is playing festivals yet. The pattern for the rest is theaters and casino rooms, the same rooms BINI and SB19 played in 2025.

Ben&Ben, the folk-pop band, took its Traveler Across Dimensions tour to Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California on July 12, 2025, the only U.S. date on that leg, according to BusinessWorld. No Southern California date for the band has been announced for 2026 as of mid-September.

Cup of Joe, the Baguio band behind “Multo,” is listed on Songkick as having played the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on October 31, 2025, and again on April 25, 2026, with a San Leandro date the night before. The Saban is a 1,900-capacity room, and a repeat booking six months apart suggests the first night worked.

Zack Tabudlo has a Saban Theatre date on his record from November 2023 but no U.S. dates listed for 2025 or 2026. Dilaw and Hev Abi likewise have no verified U.S. dates in this window, though Hev Abi played Edmonton in April 2025.

88rising’s Head in the Clouds festival, the Los Angeles fixture for Asian and Asian American pop, returned to Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on August 8, 2026, headlined by KATSEYE and XG. The announced lineup did not include a Philippine-based act. Notably, the OPM breakthroughs of 2026 did not come through that door. They came through the artists’ own tours and through mainstream festival bookers.

There is a parallel story in U.S. pop. Olivia Rodrigo has spoken publicly about her Filipino American roots, telling Good Morning America in 2022 that she felt proud to be part of the Filipino community, as reported by GMA News. Her success is not an OPM story, but it is part of why a Filipino flag in a Coachella crowd no longer reads as unusual.

For Long Beach and Carson readers, the practical takeaway is short. BINI’s Peacock Theater and San Diego dates have passed. SB19’s Anaheim and Temecula shows were a year ago. The next round of routing has not been announced, and when it is, the acts to watch are the ones already working the Saban and the Grove.
