What you’ll play
Strategicon lists board, card, collectible, miniature, party, tabletop and live action role-playing, video, and war games. Its conventions have also hosted competitive play, including serving as a Catan National Championship qualifier. The doors do not close between Friday noon and Monday evening, so you can game at any hour.
How a Strategicon weekend works
Strategicon runs on a rhythm of deadlines before each show: event submissions, game sign-ups, the hotel’s convention rate, and pre-registration each close on set dates. For Gateway 2026, for example, events were due August 14, sign-ups opened August 15, the hotel rate ended August 20, and pre-registration closed August 31. Orccon 2027’s deadlines had not been posted as of this writing, so watch the site in the new year.
The 2027 Strategicon calendar
| Convention | Dates | Weekend |
|---|---|---|
| Orccon 2027 | February 5 to 8 | The weekend before Presidents Day weekend |
| Gamex 2027 | May 28 to 31 | Memorial Day |
| Gateway 2027 | September 3 to 6 | Labor Day |
All three are at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport. Orccon shares its weekend with Gallifrey One, the Doctor Who convention at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport, also on Century Boulevard. The rest of the year’s shows are on our 2027 Southern California convention calendar.
A little history
Strategicon’s three conventions draw more than 2,000 attendees and focus on role-playing, board, card, and miniatures gaming, according to Wikipedia. The organizers bill them as Southern California’s finest gaming conventions.
