Artists to Watch: After

The 824 Journal Artists to Watch title card for After, Los Angeles trip-pop duo

After is the Los Angeles duo of Justine Dorsey, who sings, and Graham Epstein. They met through the dating app Hinge in 2023 and ended up making music together instead, according to their label, Mom + Pop, and The FADER.

The sound

The FADER calls it trip-pop: bright, early-2000s mall-pop chords over moody drum and bass, grungy guitars and trip-hop, and compares it to Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. Consequence added Hilary Duff’s Metamorphosis and early-2000s teen-drama soundtracks. Mom + Pop sums up their influences as running from Michelle Branch to Portishead and Fountains of Wayne to Enigma.

The records

Early traction came from a TikTok video of Dorsey performing “Deep Diving,” The FADER reported. After EP came out in April 2025, followed by After EP 2 on Oct. 17, 2025. Their debut album, Fell Asleep in the Sun, a 13-track record on Mom + Pop, came out Sept. 18, 2026, with singles including “Promise (When You Go),” “Take Me to Sunrise” and the title track.

Why now

With the album out, the band is on its first North American headline tour, which opened Sept. 28 in Denver. It ends at home on Nov. 5 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, with Silverdeer opening. Dates in Australia and New Zealand follow in January 2027.
