The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens holds Boo at the L.A. Zoo on two Halloween weekends: Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, and Saturday and Sunday, October 31 and November 1. Trick-or-treat stations are open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The event is included with paid zoo admission or an active L.A. Zoo membership. Pumpkin painting costs extra.

For families

Six candy stations line the walk between the Children’s Zoo and Treetop Terrace, and candy is handed out while supplies last. Families should bring their own trick-or-treat bags or buy one at a zoo gift shop. Costumes are encouraged, but full face masks and weapons are not allowed.

Halloween Headquarters at Treetop Terrace has games and activities, with Give Kids Art on October 24 and the Los Angeles Public Library on October 25. Other stops include an inflatable corn maze, five themed photo spots, costumed characters at the Children’s Zoo, a Spooky Conservation Expo at the Rose Garden and a daily vulture talk at noon at the World of Birds Show Theater.

On Halloween, Saturday, October 31, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater performs at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Getting there

The zoo is at 5333 Zoo Drive in Griffith Park. Check the zoo’s website for admission reservations before you go.
