“Earrings” first appeared on Malcolm Todd’s 2024 mixtape Sweet Boy. In 2026 it became the song that introduced him to a much larger audience. TikTok says it went to No. 1 on its Viral charts in the U.S., Canada and the UK, and it reached No. 13 on the UK singles chart, where it has spent 26 weeks.
Background
Todd is a Los Angeles songwriter in his early 20s. He told The Line of Best Fit he taught himself guitar during the pandemic and made his first EP with a high school friend, Charlie Ziman, then took a gap year working at an ice cream shop. His sister is the singer Audrey Hobert. He is signed to Columbia Records.
According to Live Nation, he had never played a live show three years before this tour and sold 100,000 tickets across three continents in the year before it.
The sound
His songs sit between indie pop and alternative R&B, and TikTok is where much of his current audience first heard him.
The records
After Sweet Boy came a self-titled debut album on April 4, 2025. His second album, Do That Again, followed on June 5, 2026. Billboard reported it debuted in the Top 10 of seven of its charts, and it reached No. 19 in the UK. He was also a Best New Artist nominee at the 2026 MTV VMAs.
Why now
This is a hometown story with a clear finish line. The Do That Again Tour has 29 North American dates that started Sept. 2. It reaches Gallagher Square at Petco Park in San Diego on Oct. 24 and closes at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Oct. 28.
