Artists to Watch: Prostitute

The 824 Journal Artists to Watch title card for Prostitute, noise rock, Dearborn, Michigan

Prostitute formed in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2020. Vocalist Moe Kazra and drummer Andrew Kaster were childhood friends who started the band while working the same job, Stereogum reported. Crack Magazine lists guitarist Ross Babinski and bassist Dylan Zaranski alongside them, and Mute says the members grew up in Dearborn and went to the same schools.

The sound

Their music is noise rock with influences from Arab, West African and East Asian music, according to Stereogum, which compared them to Black Midi, Swans, Death Grips, Iceage and the Fall. Crack points to Middle Eastern dabke and Japanese experimental rock in the mix.

The records

Their debut album, Attempted Martyr, was self-released Oct. 20, 2024. Stereogum describes it as a loose concept album built around a doomed religious zealot. The band signed to Mute in December 2025, and Mute reissued the album worldwide on CD and vinyl on March 13, 2026. Crack reports a second album is in development.

Why now

Few self-released debuts get a worldwide second release on a label like Mute. The band has spent 2026 taking the record on the road, starting with a UK and European tour in April. This fall they are opening for Loathe on a North American tour with Fleshwater, which stops at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Oct. 11.
