Hollywood Palladium

Venue Profile

Los Angeles, CA · 4000 capacity · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The Hollywood Palladium is a Streamline Moderne ballroom on Sunset Boulevard, a few blocks south of Hollywood and Vine. Gordon Kaufmann designed the building, and it opened on October 31, 1940, with Tommy Dorsey’s orchestra and a young Frank Sinatra on the bill.

In the big band era and after, it hosted dance orchestras, and Tito Puente’s orchestra was a regular draw between the late 1950s and the 1970s. The Grateful Dead played four shows here in 1971 and 1972, and Keith Richards recorded a live album on its stage in 1988. Live Nation reopened the room in 2008 after a year-long renovation that added a new dance floor, upgraded restrooms and improved stage systems.

Today the Palladium books large touring acts across rock, hip-hop, Latin and electronic music on a general admission floor with a capacity of about 4,000. Shows are generally ages 5 and up unless listed otherwise. The venue has eleven bars, and the on-site lot is entered at Argyle Avenue.
