Silverlake Conservatory of Music is a Los Angeles nonprofit music school, and on Saturday, Oct. 17, it will mark its 25th anniversary with a benefit concert at the Hollywood Palladium. Its legal name is Bring On The Music Inc., and its listed address is 4652 Hollywood Blvd.

The school was founded in 2001 by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary and musician Keith “Tree” Barry, along with their friend Peter Weiss. Coverage of the announcement describes the founding as a response to cutbacks in arts education programming in Los Angeles.

The Oct. 17 benefit

The Palladium show is open to the public. In past years the Conservatory raised money through a private annual dinner. For the anniversary it is holding a public concert instead, according to Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Announced performers are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Grohl, Vince Staples and comedian Marc Maron, with additional guests still to be named. The official benefit site lists a 7 p.m. start on Oct. 17. Tickets went on sale to the public on Sept. 25 through Ticketmaster after a Sept. 24 presale, so availability may have changed. The Palladium and Ticketmaster listings show what remains.

The benefit aims to raise about $1.5 million toward a year of programming, per Billboard. That report also lists Beck, Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith and Bruno Mars among the performers at past benefits.

The benefit site also lists sponsor packages, VIP tickets at $2,500 for standing places and $3,500 for seated places, and a donation option for people who cannot attend.

What the school does

The organization’s posted mission is to “facilitate a dynamic music education” for beginning and accomplished musicians of all skill levels, with a primary focus on local youth. It offers private lessons on orchestral and band instruments, including voice, plus a range of ensemble classes.

Scholarships give qualifying children free lessons and instruments. Recent coverage puts the scholarship program at more than 200 students. Reports on weekly enrollment vary, citing more than 900 students in some accounts and more than 1,000 in others.

What the numbers show
