Fifty years of A New Hope
Lucasfilm announced the Los Angeles edition during the closing ceremony of Star Wars Celebration Japan on April 20, 2025. “Star Wars Celebration is returning stateside in 2027 to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope,” StarWars.com said at the time, adding that it would be the first Celebration held in Los Angeles since 2006.
The two most recent stateside editions were in Anaheim, in 2015 and 2022. Celebration Japan took place April 18 to 20, 2025, at Makuhari Messe.
Celebration is produced by Lucasfilm in cooperation with ReedPop, the events company that also runs New York Comic Con. The convention center has listed West Hall A, South Hall, Petree Hall, Concourse Hall, and Kentia Hall among the spaces booked for the event.
Key art released in May shows Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO in front of Los Angeles landmarks, including a reworked Hollywood sign, with Darth Vader and the Death Star above. Lucasfilm described it as an homage to Tom Jung’s original 1977 poster.
