The Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema heads back up the mountain March 2 to 6, 2027. The five-day independent film festival fills the Rustic Theatre in Idyllwild, the pine-forest town in the San Jacinto Mountains, with features, featurettes, shorts, documentaries, and music videos.

The festival marks 18 years this edition, and it likes to quote The Hollywood Reporter, which called it “The Greatest Little Film Festival on Earth.” Submissions are still open, so the lineup is a ways off. Here is what is posted as of September 28, 2026.

The festival’s lodging page lists sponsors including Tahquitz Pines Retreat, the Idyllwild Inn, Harvey House, New Spirit Vacation Homes, Woodland Park Manor, BlueBird Cottage Inn, Fireside Inn, Silver Pines Lodge, and the Idyllwild Bunkhouse. Several advertise festival discounts of 20% through links on that page or by mentioning IIFC.

  • Stay in town if you can. The Rustic Theatre is on North Circle Drive, and several of the listed lodging sponsors are on the same street or nearby.
  • Follow the festival on Instagram and Facebook for schedule news.

About the festival

Stephen Savage founded the festival and serves as its director. In a director’s message on the festival’s site, he writes that he began laying the groundwork in 2009. Trinity Houston is executive producer, and Michael Croke is co-founder and advisory chair. The festival says its goal is to give emerging filmmakers a place to connect with each other and with industry professionals.

Still to come

The 2027 lineup, schedule, ticket and pass prices, the second venue, parking details, and accessibility information have not been announced. The 824 Journal will update this guide when they are released.
