Little Saigon’s Brodard Is Coming to Long Beach, but the Opening Date Is Still Unannounced

Brodard, one of the most recognized Vietnamese restaurants in Orange County, is expanding to Long Beach. The new location is planned for 6480 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 100, in the former Tocaya space at the 2nd & PCH retail center. As of mid-September, both the restaurant and the property still list it as coming soon.

The move brings a piece of Little Saigon’s culinary history to the Long Beach side of the county line. Brodard opened in Fountain Valley in 1996 and relocated within the city to its current home in 2017. Los Angeles Times critic Bill Addison has called it one of California’s best Vietnamese restaurants.

The family’s food story starts in Nha Trang, Vietnam, where founder Diane Dang’s family ran Hoa Binh, a French bakery. The family immigrated to the United States in 1986. After her husband Thuong suffered a stroke in 1996, Diane took over the business and built its menu around her mother’s kitchen in Nha Trang and her memories of family gatherings.

The restaurant’s signature dish is nem nuong cuon, a grilled pork spring roll wrapped with rice paper, herbs and a crisp shard of egg roll skin. Rib eye spring rolls, banh khot tom, the turmeric rice cakes with shrimp, and the Brodard crepe noodle round out the menu. A crispy king salmon egg roll is planned as a Long Beach exclusive.

The Brodard group also includes Brodard Chateau in Garden Grove, and Dang’s daughter Chau Haller runs Bamboo Bistro in Newport Beach.

Long Beach has a small but growing Vietnamese dining scene, with spots like Sesame Dinette and Pickle Banh Mi. Brodard would bring a name with three decades of history in Little Saigon to the city.

In late July, 2nd & PCH representative Roberto Lemus told Longbeachize the center did not yet have a specific opening date. That remains the case.
