Wilshire Ebell Theatre
The Wilshire Ebell Theatre is part of the Ebell of Los Angeles campus at Wilshire Boulevard and Lucerne Boulevard in Mid-Wilshire, next to Hancock Park. The Ebell, a women’s club founded in 1894, built the Italian Renaissance complex, and the campus opened in 1927. Sumner P. Hunt was the architect.
Amelia Earhart gave her last public speech here in 1937, and a young Judy Garland, then performing as Frances Gumm, was noticed by film studio talent scouts on this stage. The theater keeps a Barton pipe organ and is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The 1,238-seat hall hosts concerts, comedy, talks and touring shows, and a smaller Live in the Lounge music series runs through the season. Limited lot parking is first come, first served, and rideshare drop-off is on 8th Street.
