The Wiltern

Venue Profile

Los Angeles, CA · 2300 capacity · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The Wiltern occupies the base of the Pellissier Building at Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Koreatown. Stiles O. Clements of Morgan, Walls & Clements designed the building, G. Albert Lansburgh handled the theater interior, and it opened in 1931 as the Warner Bros. Western Theatre. Its blue-green terra cotta facade is a well-known example of Zigzag Moderne design.

After falling into disrepair and facing demolition in the late 1970s, the theater was restored and reopened on May 1, 1985. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recorded part of a live album here that August. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.

Live Nation operates the room, which holds about 2,300 with a general admission floor, or about 1,850 when fully seated. It books rock, indie, hip-hop, electronic and comedy tours. The Wilshire/Western Metro station is at the corner.
