The Viper Room

Venue Profile

West Hollywood, CA · 250 capacity · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The Viper Room is a small club at Sunset Boulevard and Larrabee Street on the Sunset Strip. Actors Johnny Depp and Sal Jenco opened it on August 14, 1993, in a building that earlier housed a jazz club called The Central. Depp gave up his stake in 2004, and the club has changed owners several times since.

In its first decade it drew a young Hollywood crowd, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Johnny Cash and Green Day all played its stage. Today the room holds about 250 and books rock, punk, metal and alternative bands, many of them local or up-and-coming.

The club is 21+. A redevelopment of the site has been approved by the city, with a rebuilt club, a music history gallery and a hotel tower targeted for about 2029, but shows are still on the calendar through late 2026. Check the club’s calendar before planning a visit.
