The United Theater on Broadway
The United Theater on Broadway is the former United Artists Theatre at 929 South Broadway. It opened on December 26, 1927. C. Howard Crane designed the auditorium, with Walker & Eisen, in a Spanish Gothic style modeled on the cathedral in Segovia, and the attached 13-story tower was briefly the tallest building in Los Angeles.
From 1990 to 2005 the theater served as the University Cathedral of televangelist Gene Scott. From 2014 to January 2024 it was the theater of the Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, and after the hotel changed hands in 2024 the room took its current name. The building is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The theater hosts seated concerts, comedy and films with live orchestra, with fall 2026 dates including Art Garfunkel, The Dresden Dolls, Adrian Younge and PJ Morton. Tickets are sold mainly through AXS. The hotel upstairs now operates without its own restaurant, so plan to eat nearby on Broadway.
