The Roxy Theatre
The Roxy Theatre is on the western end of the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, next to the Rainbow Bar & Grill. Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler opened it on September 20, 1973, with partners including David Geffen, and Neil Young played the first three nights.
Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Marley are among the artists who recorded live albums here. The Rocky Horror Show made its American debut on this stage in 1974, and Paul Reubens introduced Pee-wee Herman here in 1981. Lou Adler and his son Nic Adler own the club, and Goldenvoice has been its exclusive promoter since 2014.
The room is general admission standing room unless a show notes otherwise, with a capacity of about 500. Age limits vary by show. The venue says it is fully accessible and sets aside an ADA section, and guests who need it can ask a manager on arrival. Parking is limited; the venue lists paid parking at 9009 W Sunset Blvd plus nearby lots at 8981 and 9022 Sunset.
