The Greek Theatre
The Greek Theatre is an outdoor amphitheater in the southern part of Griffith Park, above Los Feliz on North Vermont Avenue. It stands on land that Griffith J. Griffith donated to the city, opened in 1930, and served as barracks during World War II.
Between 1952 and 1975, impresario James A. Doolittle expanded its programming to include dance, opera and touring theater. Neil Diamond recorded his 1972 live album Hot August Night here, and the venue appears in the 2018 film A Star Is Born. The City of Los Angeles owns the site, and SMG, now ASM Global, manages and books it.
The theater seats about 5,900 on reserved seating, and its season runs from spring into fall with rock, pop, Latin and comedy tours. Outside food is not allowed, but one sealed plastic water bottle per person is. Parking and shuttle passes are sold in advance, and parking on neighborhood streets can lead to towing.
