The Fonda Theatre

Venue Profile

Los Angeles, CA · 1200 capacity · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The Fonda Theatre stands on Hollywood Boulevard between Gower Street and El Centro Avenue, a short walk east of Vine Street. It opened on October 20, 1926, as the Carter DeHaven Music Box and staged the West Coast premiere of Chicago the following year. Lux Radio Theatre broadcast from the building starting in 1936, and in 1945 Fox West Coast took it over and ran it as a cinema under several names.

The Nederlander Organization reopened it for stage plays in 1985 and named it after actor Henry Fonda. Work to return the interior to its 1920s look began in 2002, and Goldenvoice took over in 2012 and turned it into a concert hall.

The Fonda holds about 1,200 people. The main floor is general admission standing room, and the balcony mixes general admission seats and standing space. Bills lean toward indie, alternative and pop touring acts, and age limits vary by show. Concessions are cashless, outside food and drinks are not allowed, and bags are capped at 14 by 14 inches.
