The Belasco
The Belasco occupies a 1926 theater at the corner of 11th and Hill Streets in Downtown Los Angeles. Oil executive Edward L. Doheny commissioned the building, and the architecture firm Morgan, Walls and Clements designed it in the Churrigueresque style. It opened on November 1, 1926, with the play Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
The theater closed to live stage use in 1950 and later housed congregations and film shoots, appearing in Being John Malkovich and The Prestige. It was named a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1990 and reopened as a music venue on March 19, 2011. Live Nation has operated it since 2020.
Bookings include touring rock, Latin, hip-hop and electronic acts. Age limits are listed with each event, and shows without one are all ages. Bags must be under 12 by 12 inches, and cameras with detachable lenses are turned away without a media pass. The box office opens only on show days.
