Palace Theatre

Venue Profile

Los Angeles, CA · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The Palace Theatre at 630 South Broadway opened in 1911 and is the oldest remaining theater on Broadway, as well as the oldest original Orpheum Circuit theater in the country. G. Albert Lansburgh and Robert Brown Young designed it, and its multicolored terra cotta facade was the first of its kind in California.

Harry Houdini, Will Rogers and Fred Astaire played its vaudeville stage. The building became Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 449 in 1989. Broadway Theatre Group took it over after 2010, carried out a restoration of about $1 million, and has used it as a live venue since June 2011. Film credits include The Big Lebowski, Dreamgirls and Michael Jackson’s Thriller video.

Concerts here are occasional rather than nightly, mixed with podcasts, private events and screenings. The Circle Jerks are listed for December 2026. Pershing Square station on the B and D lines is a few blocks north.
