Orpheum Theatre
The Orpheum Theatre opened on February 15, 1926, at 842 South Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles. Designed by G. Albert Lansburgh, it was the fourth and last Los Angeles house on the Orpheum vaudeville circuit, and it seats about 2,000.
Early bills included the Marx Brothers, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, and in the 1960s the theater hosted concerts by Little Richard, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. A restoration that began in 1989 made it one of the most thoroughly restored movie palaces in the city. Its Mighty Wurlitzer, installed in 1928, is one of three theater pipe organs left in Southern California.
The fall 2026 calendar mixes rock, indie, bluegrass and blues tours with stand-up comedy and Spanish-language and faith-based concerts. Film and television crews also use the room, including productions such as American Idol and RuPaul’s Drag Race. Box office questions go to (877) 677-4386.
