Long Beach Arena opened in 1962 as part of the city’s downtown convention complex. The outside wall carries Wyland’s Planet Ocean, a 116,000-square-foot mural of gray whales and other marine life that was dedicated in 1992.

The arena has a notable recording history. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin (How the West Was Won), Electric Light Orchestra and Eric Clapton all released live material recorded here, and Iron Maiden’s Live After Death was taken from a March 1985 show. The venue lists capacity at 13,000.

The Long Beach Symphony now holds its pops series here, with shows planned for October 24 and December 19, 2026, and the fall 2026 calendar also lists the Forever Tour on November 28 and Dwight Yoakam on December 5. The arena will host handball at the 2028 Olympics. It is a short walk from the Metro A Line’s 1st Street station.
