El Rey Theatre

Venue Profile

Los Angeles, CA · 771 capacity · Indoor · Updated September 2026

The El Rey Theatre is an Art Deco former movie house on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile, between La Brea and Fairfax avenues. Clifford A. Balch designed it, and it opened in 1936. The city named it Historic-Cultural Monument No. 520 in 1991.

It ran as a single-screen cinema for decades, then became a dance club called Wall Street in the 1980s, and converted to live music in 1994. Goldenvoice books it today.

The room holds 771 and is mostly general admission standing room, with a VIP balcony and some seated shows. Age limits vary by event. Food and drinks are sold inside, and the adjacent El Cartel bar is an option before shows. ADA viewing is on the right side of the room when facing the stage.
