Dolby Theatre
The Dolby Theatre is part of the Ovation Hollywood complex at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, beside the TCL Chinese Theatre. It opened on November 9, 2001, as the Kodak Theatre and took the Dolby name in 2012. David Rockwell’s firm designed it with the Academy Awards in mind, and the Oscars have been held here almost every year since 2002.
Beyond awards shows, the theater has staged American Idol finales, America’s Got Talent live rounds and the Cirque du Soleil show Iris. Its calendar now includes concert tours, orchestral performances of video game and film music, international touring artists and comedy.
The house has about 3,400 reserved seats on several levels. Concessions are run by Wolfgang Puck Catering and are cashless, and outside food and drinks are not allowed. The Hollywood/Highland Metro station opens directly into the complex, which is usually simpler than driving into the attached garage.
