Avalon Hollywood
Avalon Hollywood occupies a 1927 theater on Vine Street, just south of Hollywood Boulevard and across from the Capitol Records Tower. It opened on January 24, 1927, as the Hollywood Playhouse and later ran as the WPA Federal Theatre and the El Capitan, where Richard Nixon delivered his 1952 Checkers speech, then as the Jerry Lewis Theatre and, from 1964, the Hollywood Palace.
The building became a nightclub known as The Palace in the 1970s and 1980s and took the Avalon name in 2002. A 2016 renovation updated its sound and lighting. Bardot, an upstairs lounge opened in 2008, shares the building and hosts smaller events.
Programming centers on electronic and dance music headliners and DJ sets, with some live acts mixed in. JamBase lists a capacity of about 1,250. Friday and Saturday club nights are 21+, and the dress code bans shorts, sandals, tank tops, athletic wear and baseball caps. There is no on-site parking, but the Hollywood/Vine Metro station is a short walk away.
