Alex Theatre
The Alex Theatre is a 1,400-seat historic theater on Brand Boulevard in downtown Glendale. It opened on September 4, 1925, as the Alexander Theatre, designed by Arthur G. Lindley and Charles R. Selkirk. In 1940 S. Charles Lee redesigned the front and added the 100-foot neon tower that still marks the building.
After a backstage fire in 1948 and decades as a movie house, the theater was restored in 1993 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. It has hosted concerts, dance and comedy along with television productions such as the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9 finale and episodes of David Letterman’s Netflix series. In 2026 it screened The Odyssey in 70mm, its first first-run film since 1991.
SAS Entertainment Partners took over operations in October 2021. The theater books a mix of music, comedy, screenings and private events, so check each listing for seating and age details.
