DALLAS, TX. Sixteen-year-old Texas author Kaleb Kim has released his debut novel, Veins of Contrast, a dark science-fantasy story following Ashur, Thyrius, and Calla as they descend into the mysterious Elder Ruins. The book was written to give readers an imaginative adventure while encouraging reflection on hope, identity, purpose, compassion, and the lasting effects of personal choices.
The book is available worldwide through Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions.
A Living Mystery Beneath the Surface
Ashur enters the Elder Ruins expecting to uncover forgotten history. Instead, he discovers ancient structures that react to him and appear to recognize his presence. As he travels farther below the surface with Thyrius and the steadfast Calla, the group encounters a world governed by unfamiliar rules. Roots remain intact when they should have decayed, while a mysterious substance behaves in ways that challenge nature itself. Each discovery raises new questions about the ruins, their history, and their connection to Ashur.
A Story of Grief, Compassion, and Sacrifice
The journey through the Elder Ruins forces Ashur to confront grief he has carried for years. Memories he tried to bury begin echoing through the ancient environment, turning the expedition into a deeply personal search for truth. Compassion also has consequences within the story. Ashur and his companions must consider how their decisions affect others and what they may be willing to sacrifice.
From a Childhood World to a Published Novel
Kaleb began writing Veins of Contrast two years ago, developing an imaginative world he had first created when he was younger. Although he initially had little interest in writing, encouragement from his mother helped him approach the creative process with greater freedom. He hopes the book will encourage other young creators to give their ideas a chance and bring their own imagined worlds to life.
“You don’t have to create something everyone agrees with. You just have to have the courage to create it,” said Kaleb.
