About the Artist
Taalib Johnson — who performs under the stage name Musiq Soulchild (and at times mononymously as Musiq) — is an independent R&B and neo-soul singer, songwriter, and author based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He established his solo career by blending R&B, soul, and hip-hop influences, rising to prominence during the neo-soul movement with multi-platinum projects like his 2000 debut Aijuswanaseing and its chart-topping 2002 follow-up Juslisen.
Over his multi-decade career, the Atlanta-influenced, Philly-bred artist has earned 13 Grammy nominations, accumulated numerous Billboard and BET awards, and built a legacy centered on his unique conversational songwriting style and penchant for unconventional track titles. His recent discography under the Musiq Soulchild moniker includes the 2025 collaborative sequel album Victims & Villains 2 with producer Hit-Boy, spearheaded by the single “October 31st” featuring Dave East, alongside a special 25th-anniversary vinyl reissue of his definitive debut album in 2026.
