Artist Biography
Andrew McMahon has spent more than two decades building a career around the piano, songwriting, and an ability to turn deeply personal experiences into music that connects across generations.
His career began in Southern California with Something Corporate, the piano-driven rock band he co-founded while still in high school. With McMahon as its lead singer, pianist, and primary songwriter, the group emerged during the early 2000s with albums including Leaving Through the Window and North. The band established the foundation for a career that would continue to evolve rather than follow a single musical identity. (CashorTrade)
In 2005, McMahon introduced Jack’s Mannequin, a project that allowed him to move further into personal and introspective songwriting. Its debut album, Everything in Transit, became one of the defining releases of his career, followed by The Glass Passenger and People and Things.
That same year brought a life-changing chapter outside of music. McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia while he was 23 and preparing for the release of Everything in Transit. He underwent chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and a stem cell transplant from his sister. After stepping away from Jack’s Mannequin, McMahon began releasing music under his own name before launching Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness in 2014. The project introduced another chapter of his career and produced “Cecilia and the Satellite,” one of his most successful songs. Dear Jack Foundation
Andrew McMahon founded the Dear Jack Foundation in July 2006 following his own treatment for acute lymphocytic leukemia.
The organization focuses specifically on adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer, providing programs designed to support patients, survivors, and their families from treatment through survivorship.
