Built-in Community: Built in Community is a visual story exploring the ecosystem of mutual care within the creative community. At its core, this project is an intimate look at the "built-in community" artists create when they build community together—a self-sustaining network of emotional and structural support that allows creative minds to flourish. To create the art our hearts desire, we must first protect the things our hearts hold most dear. In this visual narrative, that "heart" is literalized through our children. The story captures how local artists step up for one another, blurring the lines between colleagues and chosen family. By sharing the mental, emotional, and physical responsibilities of caretaking—specifically watching over each other’s kids—the art scene builds a protective sanctuary. It is a beautiful cycle of reciprocity: the community takes care of our hearts (our children), so that we, as artists, have the space, peace, and freedom to create the art closest to our hearts. Through striking imagery and collaborative storytelling, this project honors the unseen infrastructure of the art world: the shared meals, the studio-floor babysitting, and the collective village that proves we don’t have to choose between being dedicated creators and devoted parents. |
